On Dubai’s Bur Dubai side, Old Dubai’s creekside lanes make a compact day out: begin in Al Fahidi, continue toward the Coffee Museum area and textile souk, then cross Dubai Creek by abra to Deira. Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood is a historic district of wind-tower houses and lanes, about a 19-minute walk from Tulip Hotel Apartments.

Start with Al Fahidi’s historic lanes

Start with Al Fahidi’s historic lanes

Begin your Old Dubai walking tour in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, where wind-tower houses and historic lanes set the scene for the day. The neighbourhood is in Bur Dubai, on the creek’s western side.

Keep the first part of the route on foot and allow time to wander through the lanes before continuing toward the Coffee Museum area. If you want a closer look at the neighbourhood’s setting and streets, this walking guide to Al Fahidi covers that area.

Dubai Museum is also in the Al Fahidi area of Bur Dubai. Its published hours are Saturday–Thursday 08:30–20:30 and Friday 14:30–20:30, so check the official site before you go.

Continue to the Coffee Museum area

Continue to the Coffee Museum area

The Coffee Museum is a natural next stop after Al Fahidi, keeping the route within the same part of Bur Dubai before you head toward the creek. Its location is about a 17-minute walk from Tulip Hotel Apartments.

From the Coffee Museum area, continue on toward the textile souk and creek. This order keeps the day moving across Bur Dubai toward the crossing to Deira, rather than doubling back to the starting point.

Walk toward the textile souk and Creek

Walk toward the textile souk and Creek

Dubai Textile Souk lies on the Bur Dubai side of Dubai Creek, making it a useful stop before crossing to Deira. It is about a 20-minute walk from Tulip Hotel Apartments.

Dubai Creek stretches for 14 kilometres and divides Deira and Bur Dubai. From the textile souk, continue toward a creek abra station; traditional motorized abras carry passengers across between the two districts.

For background on where the traditional crossings run, the Dubai Creek abra crossing guide explains the routes between Bur Dubai and Deira.

Cross to Deira for the souks

Cross to Deira for the souks

Take a traditional abra across Dubai Creek to continue the day in Deira, where the Spice Souk and Deira Gold Souk are located. RTA describes traditional services between Bur Dubai Abra Station and Deira Old Souq Abra Station, as well as between Dubai Old Souq Station and Al Sabkha Abra Station.

The traditional abra fare is AED 1 per passenger per trip, payable in cash. Creek routes with a fare of AED 2 include route CR3 between Dubai Old Souq and Baniyas, route CR4 between Al Sabkha and Al Fahidi, and route CR5 between Al Fahidi and Deira Old Souq.

Their operating hours vary by route and day of the week, and Ramadan and public-holiday times may differ. Ask the customer-service office at the station about those variations.

Once across, continue to the souks at a walking pace and leave time for the return crossing. For a focused plan around the Gold Souk and Spice Souk, this guide to Deira’s souks covers that part of Old Dubai.

Adjust the route for heat, hours and mobility

Make the creek crossing and any timed museum visit the fixed points of your one-day Dubai itinerary, then fit the walks between them to your pace. From Tulip Hotel Apartments, Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood is about a 19-minute walk; the Coffee Museum area is a nearby stop along this route before Dubai Textile Souk and the creek crossing.

If you plan to use the Metro for part of your journey, passengers need a nol card with at least AED 7.50 balance. Metro station hours vary by day: Monday–Thursday 05:00–00:00, Friday 05:00–01:00 the next day, Saturday 05:00–00:00 and Sunday 08:00–00:00. Check the RTA site before travelling for current service details.
